Meet Cherri-Anne Marion

Creating has always been a significant part of my life. Specifically drawing and painting, I had this in common with my grandma (who I called Amma). Growing up I knew she could draw. She would doodle a bouquet of flowers, or a dog on a scrap piece of paper or a napkin if I asked her to. She was modest and private about her work. It wasn’t till she passed away recently that I realized what an incredibly talented artist she was. I was given her old sketch books, and folders with drawings and ink work, many of which are now framed and hung in my home. After meticulously looking through the papers, I wondered why she never showed her work, why she didn’t pursue her talent and why I never asked!
For me, art is little pieces of yourself put into a painting or a drawing and to take those pieces out into the world to be seen puts you in a vulnerable position. It’s a difficult thing to do.
I don’t know if that is the reason she didn’t show off her work, but I wish she did.
She has encouraged me to pursue my passion.
